The focus of the Association is to improve communication and cooperation among the many equestrian disciplines in Loudoun County, provide information about equestrian activities, offer educational programs and networking opportunities, and assist in the development of public infrastructure to meet the needs of the Loudoun equestrian community. MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT…. Dear Members and Friends, Beginning with this issue of October 2007 the Loudoun Horse Association Newsletter will be coming to you every other month with information about the Loudoun Horse Association, and events and activities of interest to our members and friends. I want to especially express our appreciation to our editor, Marilyn Jarvis, for her initiative and continuing hard work and creativity in making this newsletter possible. The Loudoun Horse Association's third year is off to a great start and we're looking forward to some noteworthy activities and events. I want to briefly highlight the plans that are in the works for this year and are described in more detail later in this newsletter. We had a full agenda for our September business meeting, which included formal adoption of a new Mission Statement which appears at the top of the Newsletter, rescheduling our annual Trail Ride, and an excellent and informative presentation by Dr. Maya Lee, DVM, on horse health awareness, problem spotting, when to call the vet, and emergency on-the-spot actions to get through a crisis. We greatly appreciated Dr. Lee's availability at the last minute to give this presentation and to share her expertise with us. Sandy Rose will be with us to talk about equine nutrition on November 13th. We're going to take a new approach this year for our major fundraiser. We have reserved the Lovettsville Game Club for Saturday, February 16th. Updates on this and all LHA events will be provided at our business meetings, in this newsletter, and on the web www.loudounhorseassociation.org. The Board of Directors has begun assembling information for our Equine Resource List, which will appear soon on the website, and which we hope will eventually include all equestrian professionals, service providers, and facilities serving Loudoun County. We will be expanding our outreach for information for the list soon, and look for participation from everyone. Lastly, I want to encourage you to attend LHA meetings, share your thoughts and suggestions about how the Association can be of benefit to you and Loudoun's equestrian community at large, and if you are not already a member, join the Association. And, please feel free to email your thoughts to me at mlterpak@earthlink.net. With a strong membership and active participation, LHA will be an effective force in the equestrian community in Loudoun County. Sincerely, Mary Terpak President SPOTLIGHT ON…… Membership: It is time to renew your membership with LHA. Our new year started on July 1st.
